DOI: https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.15320506

Abstract

Vernacular architecture is one of the most important branches of architecture, utilizing local materials and traditional techniques to address the climatic and cultural needs of various communities. The historical Abhari House in Khansar is a valuable example of Qajar-era architecture, designed sustainably and well-adapted to the region's climatic conditions. This article employs field observation, technical plan analysis, interviews with residents, and library research to examine the architectural features of this house. The combination of these methods ensures that field observations provide primary data, technical plan analysis guarantees precision in examining the building's structure, and interviews offer qualitative data related to lifestyle and spatial usage. Library research is also used to compare this data with other examples of traditional architecture. Among the findings are the impacts of factors such as geographical orientation, traditional water systems, the use of local materials, and spatial organization on reducing energy consumption and optimizing thermal comfort in the building. Additionally, the article compares the architectural features of this house with those in other cold and hot regions of Iran to highlight the influence of climate on architectural form and spatial organization. The findings demonstrate that traditional Iranian architecture offers valuable strategies for sustainable design that can also be applied in contemporary architecture.

The addressal of online sexual offences against children is quite complex. With the rapid expansion of internet leading effortless cyberspace accessibility, the online space has become pernicious when it comes to the rights of children. With the lack of research and insufficient awareness, the addressal of child sexual exploitation in cyberspace has led to the rapid expansion of child exploitation material whether it is live transmission of the assault or user generated content. The increasing prevalence of child sexual exploitation in cyberspace demands an integrated “psycho-legal” approach to address the multifaceted challenges of such heinous crime. The IT Act, 2000 and the POSCO Act, provide a robust legal framework in addressing and penalizing the sexual offences against children, there lacks addressal of long-term psychological impact it has on children such as impaired sense of self, anxiety, depression, PTSD etc. The paper also highlights the gap between legal mechanism and addresses the evolving technological advances and the importance of including mandatory psychological support for the victims

Epigenetics and its impact on Evolution: Evolution beyond Genome

Diya Rautela

Department of Life Sciences, Ramjas College, University of Delhi

DOI: https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.15320610

The Extended Evolutionary Synthesis (EES) represents a paradigm shift in evolutionary biology by incorporating epigenetics, phenotypic plasticity, and non-genetic inheritance into evolutionary theory. While the Modern Synthesis (MS) emphasized genetic mutations and natural selection, EES challenges this framework by demonstrating that phenotypic changes can precede and influence genetic evolution. Epigenetic inheritance, developmental plasticity, and niche construction all play vital roles in shaping evolutionary trajectories. This review explores the foundational concepts of EES, contrasts them with MS, and examines the role of epigenetic modifications in species divergence, adaptation, and speciation. Key studies, such as epigenetic variation in Darwin’s Finches, illustrate the role of epigenetic mechanisms in evolution. By integrating insights from evolutionary developmental biology (Evo-Devo) and reciprocal causation, EES offers a more comprehensive and dynamic understanding of evolutionary processes. Additionally, this review delves into the role of transgenerational epigenetic inheritance (TEI) in adaptive evolution and speciation. TEI allows environmentally induced epigenetic modifications to persist across generations, contributing to phenotypic plasticity and influencing speciation. The ability of epigenetic mechanisms to drive adaptation has been observed in various species, such as zebrafish and alligator weed, where epigenetic modifications enhance fitness and promote ecological diversification. We explore how TEI interacts with genetic assimilation, the Baldwin effect, and molecular constraints, shaping evolutionary outcomes. Furthermore, we examine the role of epigenetics in reproductive isolation and speciation, investigating how epigenetic modifications contribute to divergence hitchhiking, hybrid incompatibilities, and adaptive evolution. Emerging research on three-dimensional genomics and paleoepigenomics suggests that epigenetic reprogramming may have played a crucial role in past and present speciation events. By examining both theoretical models and empirical findings, this review underscores the evolutionary significance of epigenetic inheritance in shaping biodiversity.

Passion against All Odds: Love as a Catalyst in Vikas Sharma’s Love and Ego: A Russo-Ukrainian War Saga

Aishwarya Prabha

Department of English Studies & Research, Jagdish Saran Hindu (P. G.) College, Amroha

DOI: https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.15320643

The present research paper critically examines the theme Passion against All Odds: Love as a Catalyst in Vikas Sharma’s Love and Ego: A RussoUkrainian War Saga. Through the lens of Mikhail Bakhtin’s dialogism, the novel glorifies multiple dimensions of love. Love, often seen as the most enduring force in human experience, can mould and intensify bonds. It can transcend boundaries—even subdue the wild and uncontrollable. The novelist embraces this notion, and weaves love as the central impetus throughout the narrative. At a surface level, the study identifies two contrasting aspects of love within the novel: the extramarital affairs of two couples, and the organic bond that blossoms between strangers from different nations. The couples, Sachi-Aryendra and Savi-Manindra, challenge traditional notions of pure, soul-deep love, as they engage in postmodern relationships unrestrained by societal expectations. Their love, driven by isolation and chance encounters, devolves into fleeting physical liaisons, much like the characters in Henry Fielding’s Tom Jones, where partners are easily exchanged, overshadowing any sense of emotional depth. As the story unfolds, however, a more profound connection emerges between Rada Lee, a Ukrainian captain, and Nathleen, a twice-widowed Russian. Their relationship, built on mutual solace and the warmth of companionship amidst the chaos of war, reveals love’s ability to provide safety and comfort, transcending personal histories and national divides.

DOI: https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.15320664

The subject matter of health and illness has largely been considered relevant to the medical domain. But dwelling into the social determinants of health and illness, sociologists have highlighted the social causative factors impacting one’s health status respectively. The Marxian idea of worker’s exploitation and consequent poor health, Foucaultian idea of madness, etc and other examples have been cited in this paper to highlight the social determinants of health and illness. The paper also tries to shed light on how sociological determinants of health could be taken care of in a holistic manner for achieving “health for all”, in convergence with the Sustainable development goal 3 for 2030. Further, the paper finds lack of adequate qualitative data in this area especially in the case of Indian society, and thus presses for promotion of more mixed method oriented research having participation of sociologists, healthcare professionals and policy makers along with people who are at the receiver end. In the concluding remarks the paper highlights the need of tailored policy initiatives to suit the health related needs of all sections of society and eventually make good health sociologically inclusive and equitably accessible to all.
